The Son of Man is an oil painting produced in 1946 by Belgian painter Rene Magritte.

Rene Magritte painted The Son of Man as a self-portrait.

In The Son of Man, a man was dressed gently in an overcoat with a bowler hat at the top of his head standing in front of a wall. Beyond this man was a cloudy sky and a sea. A green apple was painted on the face of the man who covers it fully. However, the painter leaves the eyes which the viewer can see peeking over the edge of that green apple. Magritte bends the left arm of this man backward at the elbow. The painting The Son of Man was similar to another painting by Rene Magritte the Great War on Facades. Both these images feature the same figure standing in front of the wall looking closely at the sea but The Great War on Facades features a female rather than a male. She was holding an umbrella and her face was covered with a flower. The dimension of the painting The Son of Man were 116 cm × 89 cm or 45.67 in × 35 in.
